Homestead Heights  

Homestead Heights is a neighborhood in Rochester, New York, with a population of 5,979. Homestead Heights is in Monroe County. Living in Homestead Heights offers residents a dense suburban feel, and most residents own their homes. In the city’s northeast section, bordering Irondequoit, Homestead Heights remains a neighborhood that boasts many long-time residents. Most houses in this neighborhood were built between 1910 and 1950. Architectural styles range from Cape Cod to colonial, from ranch to Storybrook. Many homes maintain their original features, such as beautiful hardwood floors and dark gumwood trim.

Every season finds children playing together and neighbors mingling in their yards. In the warmer months, neighborhood streets feature volunteer-maintained flower pots and the annual Summer Block Party hosted by the Bensonhurst Neighborhood Association (BNA). The Bensonhurst Neighborhood is a sub-neighborhood within Homestead Heights. The BNA was created by residents to “improve the quality of life through improved relationships and positive action.” Volunteers participate in the Rochester Clean Sweep cleanup program, and regular PAC-TAC (Police and Citizens Together Against Crime) walks. Residents of Homestead Heights have access to the many businesses surrounding the neighborhood’s residential section, including pharmacies and drugstores, convenience stores, and small locally-owned grocery marts. Fiorvanti Florist was founded in 1920, and Savoia Pastry Shoppe has been serving cookies, cakes, and pastries since 1929. Diners, pizza shops, and delis are all within walking distance, and Rochester, NY‘s Public Market, is only a short bike or car ride away.
